The Interview Day

Interviews are held from mid-November through the first week of January. Applicants invited to interview with our program will receive a selection of dates to choose from. Applilcants who are unable to schedule during one of the pre-offered dates are encouraged to call the program coordinator for alternate dates.
The Night Before: Residents from the Med Peds Program treat applicants to dinner the evening before their interview day at either a local Salt Lake City restaurant or at one of the resident's homes. This is an event not to be missed. We advise applicants to schedule their flights into Salt Lake with enough time to take part in this great opportunity to meet the residents and get a taste of life in Salt Lake CIty.
The Interview Day: Applicants begin their day in the Cartwright Conference Room on the 4th floor of the University of Utah School of Medicine. Breakfast and introductions to the Internal Medicine Chair, Program Directors, Chief Residents, Coordinators and Internal Medicine interns and residents take place followed by Morning Report. Overviews of the Pediatric, Med Peds and Internal Medicince Programs are covered by the Combined Co-Director, Categorical Program Directors, and Chiefs. Faculty interviews and tours of the affiliated training hospitals make up the remainder of the day.
Lunch with the med peds and pediatric residents offer more opportunities to get to know the residents in the combined and categorical programs. A tour of PCMC preceeds the afternoon interviews with pediatric faculty and the program directors of the combined and pediatric residency programs. The day typically concludes by 4 pm.
Overnight Accomodations
Accomodations at the University Guest House on the University of Utah campus is a mere walk to the University School of Medicine. One night's stay is complimentary of the program for each applicant. Applicants typically arrive the night prior to their scheduled interview and many choose to stay additional nights to allow themselves time to ski, explore Salt Lake City and the surrounding area, and to allow more time to get to know our housestaff.
Those who wish to spend additional nights are welcome to do so at a discounted rate at the University Guest House. Accomodations are pre-arranged through Jaime.bruse@hsc.utah.edu, 801.662.5702, in the Pediatric Residency Program Office. We ask that applicants please provide us at least 24-48 hours notice should there be a change to the interview date so we may courteously alter reservations at the University Guest House.
Flying into Salt Lake City
Salt Lake City International Airport is conveniently located 20 minutes from the Univerisity Campus by airport taxi or rental car. Salt Lake is a Delta Airlines Hub, however, all carriers do have daily flights from around the country into Salt Lake City.
Do I need a rental car?
No. A number of inexpensive airport shuttles are available to transport applicants from the airport to the University Guest House or a hotel of their choice. TRAX is the City's public transit system which conveniently runs from the downtown restaurants and theatres directly to the University campus, but unfortunately does not reach the airport at this time. City buses also run a variety of routes from throughout the valley to campus and the health care complex. Those who wish to head up to the mountains for skiing or to Park City may benefit from renting a car for a portion of their stay. |
